Spring Cleaning Tips

Cleaning your oven can be easier than you think. Many shop bought oven cleaning sprays produce fumes and require use in a well ventilated room. Unfortunately there isn’t always a correlation between the smell and quality. Here at OPH we have tried and tested a variety of home made oven cleaning products that are ecological, inexpensive and are equally if not more effective.

Homemade Oven Cleaning Products

White washing powder and white vinegar mixed to a paste in the ratio 5:1 respectively is an effective oven cleaner even for burnt on food. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees then turn off. Apply the mixture (be careful not to burn yourself) and leave for an hour or so, then wipe clean with a wet cloth.

Bicarbonate of Soda and water mixed to a smooth paste and smeared over the oven. Leave overnight and then wipe off with a wet cloth. This will leave your oven not only odour free but sparkling clean as well.

Ammonia poured into a wide rimmed cup or bowl and left in the oven overnight is an easy way to clean a dirty oven. Remove debris with a wet cloth and use a non metallic green scrubber to loosen any stubborn food, then rinse the oven thoroughly with Warm water and washing up liquid.
